ASIA’S TECTONIC POPULATION; HEALTH CHALLENGES

As the economy of Asia is rising at very good and commendable rate, there are other trends and problems that have been a big challenge in the country. As it has been seen from some researches given by the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation, some issues such as aging and health in the Asia- pacific region are a very big problem

This issues have brought about the tectonic movement in the areas success, as other countries’ economies are commendable some of the other low and middle income countries have been sinking deeper into the pit of poverty. This countries seem to be pulling the other countries in the region backwards. These countries could result into needing help in the future because of the current trend they have.

The demography of this country was also another issues that when looked at was worrying. There seems to be more older people than they are the young. A good example is the population of Japan. It has been estimated that by the year 20150 there will be more people beyond the age of 50 than there will be the younger people. It has also0 been estimated that the population of people below 15years will be less than 9%. This is a very scary trend as it means than by that time the country will have lost most of the labor they would need to move forward. This is one of the most devastating demographics ever recorded.

During a symposium by the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation and the World Bank, it was revealed that there has been an increase in the number of chronic diseases killing people prematurely. There has been an increase in diseases such as heart conditions, cancer, diabetes among others tis was seen when a research was done on the levels the diseases have increased by from 1990 to 2010. Lung cancer has increased by 86% whereas coronary artery disease has increased by 76% and diabetes by 76%. This is still on the rise. Apart from these diseases there has also been an increase in the number of road carnages claiming lives in the area. This means that there has been a higher loss of lives than before.

Some of these diseases claiming people, have been contributed to by the fact that most of the population is older and seem to be getting most of these diseases. The population ages being older has increased the rate at which these non-communicable diseases are being spread. This has increased the disease burden in the area.

Asia’s growing population will come in the end to put great pressure on the economy of the area. If correctly estimated, it will show that at a certain period of time there will be more older people than younger people putting more pressure on the government to take care of them.

However, when carefully analyzed it was found out that some of the diseases killing these people can be avoided through various ways. Because of the increase in population, the people seem to be consuming more of meat and having have moved to more westernized eating habits. The moving back to healthier and clean traditional ways of eating can be a greater boost in the health of the region.

This area needs a close check and re-evaluation from the governments and the people concerned before it becomes a burden on them.
